At Hot Chillys we engineer the most advanced performance products possible. We test and retest for function and durability, then add two parts fun and a cold cerveza. ‘Cuz if you’re not having fun, it’s just not worth it!
Even during minimal activity, the body gives off moisture in the form of perspiration. When it is cold, this moisture can present a risk if it is not moved away from the body. A moist garment against the skin that comes in contact with cold air can cause the body temperature to drop rapidly, increasing the risk of hypothermia (any condition in which the temperature of a body drops below the level required for normal metabolism and/or bodily function to take place).
Many untreated natural fibers like cotton, wool and silk do an excellent job of absorbing moisture but they are not as efficient at moving moisture away from the body as synthetic, hollow core fibers.
Since base layer is the first layer, it is important that it keep you warm and dry so that the other layers we wear can continue to move the moisture away from the body while also helping to keep the body warm and protected from the elements. If the base layer is not doing its job, it is far more difficult for the other layers to keep you warm and dry.
