Daren Wendell - The Earth Expedition

 ***UPDATE - 700 Miles Down - 5/4/2008

"Things are going well... I have walked over 700 miles so far and I will be coming up on the halfway point for the Appalachian Trail in a few weeks. I can't wait... my friends and I have been eating Morels (mushrooms) from the forest and all of the flowers are coming out now that I am walking into spring. I am on my way to Troutville, VA tomorrow.  Morale is very high. I am walking with 4 other people. Peak-Axe, Shadow Cast, Tangent, and Rocko. We are having a blast."

What is The Earth Expedition: The Earth Expedition is about living out a dream, living life to the fullest, and living a life that inspire others. The Earth Expedition is one man’s trek around the world’s continents on nothing but two feet.

Mix 11 languages, 18,000 miles, 7 years, 3 continents, 17 times zones, 14 countries, 36 million steps, one man, a backpack and a dream and you get The Earth Expedition.  A mans dream to walk the worlds continents on nothing but two feet. Since 2006 Daren Wendell has been planning, saving, reading, researching, and training for The Earth Expedition; a dream that he has committed many years to accomplish. “I am drawn to challenge and what people say I cannot do.  I’m attracted to risk; I’m attracted to the unexpected, attracted to new people, new languages, new cultures, and new places. People always ask me the question Why? I guess I should have a pretty good answer for this question considering I will be answering it for the next 8 years of my life.  To learn why and more about Daren's Adventure, go to www.theearthexpedition.com.

I have been a competitive snowboarder since I was eight years old. I have several years of top 5 National Rankings at USASA Nationals. I was also chosen for the USASA All American Team and competed for the US in Italy and finished with a top ten world ranking as well.

This year I left home for the winter for four months of training, traveling and competing around the country with my coaches and the Vail snowboard team.

Molly Baker - Freeskier

I have been skiing for six seasons now. Two of those seasons I spent balancing between finishing my degree at Berkeley and learning how to ski gates. My third season, I took a semester off school and moved to Tahoe to ski at Squaw. This was also my first year to compete in a Big Mountain Freeskiing Event. My last semester at Berkeley, I finished my finals and a few hours later drove out to Salt Lake City to start my fourth winter. Over the course of a few years, skiing has become the focus of my life. I hope to influence other young people and inspire them to enjoy their lives.

Since my start, I have competed yearly in the USASA National Championships and am now an Open Class rider. I am currently ranked 3rd in the USASA Open Men’s National Rankings for the 06/07 season. This year I also stepped it up to the next level, competing in the Chevy Revolution Tour in Snowboard Cross events throughout the United States. Next year’s competition schedule will include the USSA NorAm competitions, USASA, X-Games qualifier, Chevy Revolution Tour and possibly Jeep King of the Mountain. My short term goal is to qualify for the X-Games in Boardercross. Future goals in snowboarding include training hard and pushing myself so that I can make the US Snowboard Team and the 2014 Olympic Snowboard Team.

In the off season of snowboarding, I remain in the outdoors, competing in motocross. My motocross racing began 3 years ago. In my first race I place first in the first moto and second in my second moto, along with the hole shot in both motos. I was quickly bumped up to the next division. Chicks with Picks - Ice Climbers

Nine years ago, Kim Reynolds, an accomplished climber and guide, started ice climbing clinics aimed exclusively at women.  Aptly named "Chicks with Picks", the program is held annually in Ouray, Colorado and North Conway, New Hampshire.  Clinics are open to women of all levels of climbing, all ages, all shapes and all sizes.  Their motto "kiss my axe" (ice axe that is)  is part of the fun, sassy, approachable attitude that keep women coming back year after year!

Chicks with Picks boasts self reliance through teaching techincal skills in a safe and supportive environment that inspire women to become confident climbing partners.  The theme "women climbing with women, for women" promotes women's empowerment, the spirit of service and giving back to the community.  In the last eight years, Chicks with Picks has raised $116, 800 for local women's shelters through hosting public auctions during the clinics.

Pietro served as a volunteer as a ski instructor at the National Sports Center for the Disabled. In February 2001, Pietro climbed Aconcagua – 23,000 feet – in February of 2001 as a fundraiser for the Colorado Cancer Foundation.

arrow"When I packed my bags for the North Face of Elbrus, I knew that the Hot Chillys products would keep me warm throughout the whole adventure.  That's why I only took two La Montana Panel Zip-T tops and a down jacket.  I had that much confidence in the products.  I trusted them against the wicked weather of the Russian Caucasus.  I was so pleased with the results that I will now include them in my packing lists.  My teammates looked envious upon me when I got out the 10 ounces Men's Panel Zip T tops.  We all know that their bags were a lot heavier!"
